Week of Prayer - Day 4 October 7th, 2015

It was very interesting to see how different the Week of Prayer meeting was tonight than last night.

This time it was at Son Valley Church on Gordon Drive, and members of that church greeted us and had the praise time.

It is wonderful to sing together. The songs chosen were a good mix of choruses and hymns.

Jean played his guitar and helped lead the Praise Time along with his wife.
Tanya played the keyboard and sang to lead us in the hymns and choruses.
It was Pastor Cam's turn to have the talk this evening and he shared Bible verses and the special Beatitude for tonight.

"Blessed are the merciful... for they shall receive mercy."
He ended with a powerful story about a lady who forgave the man who killed her son and later her husband.
She not only forgave him but asked to take him as her son so she could continue to have someone to pour out her love on.

After a special music by Jean and Tanya, Pastor Cam had us involved in a responsive prayer time.

He gave pauses for us to pray silently and then times were we could add our prayers for others or our praises or share a Bible verse or song. This was a very special time.

After we ended the evening, people gathered in the foyer for refreshments and visiting.

These boxes were stacked up in the foyer and reminded me that we might want to fill some boxes
for children who might get no other Christmas gift. If anyone wants to fill a box I can pick some up at the Alliance Church on Cooper and Springfield.

Hope some more of our OCC members can join in this Week of Prayer at Kelowna Church with OKAA leading out.

Week of Prayer - October 4, 2015

I am so sorry I missed out on the first two evenings of this month's Week of Prayer meetings.

I heard the first one was at our OCC with Pastor Jim Weir having the talk, and then the second evening was at Westbank Church with Pastor Robbie leading.

Tonight it was at Wildwood Church and while they hosted the praise time, prayer, special musics, and refreshments, Pastor Abraham from the Son Valley Church led in the talk.

It was really wonderful to enjoy the mix of people from all of the area churches and to see so many pastors out too.

If you can possibly make it to Wednesday evening's program at Son Valley, please come and bring a friend or relative along, too!

The first special music was by Beverly and her friend with Marilyn M. playing the piano and Eldon playing the harmonica.

Mini Camp Meeting at OKAA, May 3, 2014

Today we met together at the OKAA gym for our Sabbath School and church time.

There were men in the parking lot to direct cars to the right parking place.
Parking attendants.

The Rutland Youth presented a play, "The Body," at Sabbath School.
The eye, the ear, the arms, the legs, everything has to work together in the body.
Rutland Youth put on a play for Sabbath School.
It was well done. We need to work together to make things go well.

Narrators for the play.
The young people who put on the play.

After the play came the Sabbath School lesson time.
Ern Brake in the lesson study portion of Sabbath School.
Pastor Brake's five-minute sermons you can draw on a napkin to share. He had about 30 of these.

A very nice quilt display was in the foyer.
These are some of the quilts the students and volunteer adults made in an after-school sewing club.
I think Jerrie Lou, Loretta, and Edith all help out with this group, as does Ruth S.

After a short break, church started and we enjoyed hearing Proclaim - a singing group from CUC - take part then.
They shared a prayer time before going up to lead the Praise Time.

We moved into the rest of our service, the welcome, prayer, scripture reading, and the sermon.
Pastor Hawes welcomes everyone to the church service at Mini Camp Meeting
Stefan S. leads us in prayer.
Rachel S. has the scripture text.
Dr. David Trim, speaker for Mini Camp Meeting, shares about SDA history and how we can grow and learn from our past.
He was an excellent speaker!
Someone took care to make the stage area look pretty.

The Chosen Vessels, a singing group from the Fraser Valley, sang during Mini Camp Meeting and their music was good to hear.

Thanks to all involved for a wonderful Mini Camp Meeting weekend!

Camp Meeting 2013 at Hope, B.C.

B.C. Camp Meeting started on Friday, July 26th and went until Saturday night, August 3rd. Shawn Boonstra, Ty Gibson, James Rafferty, and Doug Batchelor were some of the speakers.
Record numbers of people came to Camp Meeting this summer. It was reported that over 8,000 people were at Camp Hope for the final weekend!

There were Health Talks and Seminars, Praise Time and time to shop at the ABC.
A Pathfinder tent museum was set up and had a lot of interesting items to view in it.
Friends and family gathered to visit, eat, and sit together at meetings.

Here are a few photos to remind you of the enjoyed time together, or if you were not able to go this time, to help you see what went on there the last few days.

Several of our church members were able to attend Hope Camp Meeting for the whole ten days this year. They sure seemed to enjoy it and thought the speakers were excellent.

Let us know what your favourite part of Camp Meeting was this year!

Pastor Justis Saint-Hillair interviewing Linda from Cranbrook.
The lady who invited her to come to the meetings.
Darian Swartz painting on black ties on Sabbath afternoon.
He enjoys this activity in the park in Vernon, and has many conversations about Jesus over the ties.
The display at the front of the main pavilion.
The quartet from CUC sang in a concert on Sabbath afternoon, and it was most enjoyable. This is Joseph Hackett.
Jay Johnson
ADRA fans were handed out and used often.
Mark Haynal, CUC president, spoke on Sabbath afternoon.
Daniel D. won a contest for Scripture Song this year, and he played and sang it on Sabbath afternoon.
We enjoyed his music on his sousaphone.
Leah playing flute along with her husband playing the violin.
So wonderful to hear them.

Joel B and Jay J with Proclaim the CUC singing group.

Joel with his cello.

It is always so nice to hear Rachel Scuka play her violin.
This was a very beautiful version of  "It is Well With My Soul."

This young man played his violin with a group from Kelowna church. The man who played the soprano saxophone
has been to Orchard City Church before and played at Sutherland Hills for our turn there.
Pastor Jim Weir and Colby Maier played and sang with the Kelowna group also.
What a treat to hear this trumpet group play.
Joel Brousson sang with the CUC group called Proclaim.
These children made a very impressive moss and twig village.
It looked like she was the leader of the moss village.
Offering buckets... I think they used to be used at the old camp grounds many year ago too. Do you think so?
They always made me think of little squares of chocolate.
Offering time
The theme for this year.
Getting ready for the baptism.
A very noticeable school tent.
One way to share.
A late Sabbath afternoon wedding took place outside the little chapel.
A Pathfinder Museum tent was set up with many interesting displays.
These two little ones were so interested and enjoyed looking at the honour patches.
This group was very interesting to hear and see. They are from the Vancouver Filipino church.
The happy newly married couple just alighted from the horse-drawn carriage.
Cherri, Shannon, and Caitlin Gerber led out in this lively children's group.
Grampa was so pleased to baptize his granddaughter.
Sure is a good thing to have Todd Schafer around just when you need him. Some of the trailers are parked pretty tightly and his forklift helped many to be able to leave their spot without their next-door neighbours having to move.
Off to the waterfalls for a little hike. (Photo by Bryn on Ali's camera.)
The falls many people take time to hike to during Camp Meeting.
The views are just wonderful all around our camp grounds.
