Anniversary Wishes

Bob and Loretta Smith celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on Monday, January 28th, 2013!

We are so happy to have them in our church family.
They add sunshine and happiness along with willing-to-work attitudes.
Bob helped at my parent's as we cleaned out their garage before they moved. He was also a very helpful person to Mrs. Bayliss countless times. He most likely has helped many more people, and at places we have no knowledge about, too.

Loretta brings flowers, soup, and kind words to people who are sick or have just had surgery and are in the hospital or back at home. She leads out in the Sabbath School class for the children many weeks and does a great job of having a lead role in a play also!

We love you both and wish you many, many more years of wedding anniversaries!

Sabbath January 26th, 2013 at OCC

Just a few pictures of this Sabbath.

Doug F, Julie, and Jeff shared some of their experiences they had the week before Christmas while they were on a short term mission trip to Jamaica.

It was so interesting to hear about VBS and the many children that came for it.  Jeff told about the flooring and about the different approach to applying it.
Doug told about the people in this area and the wishes they had for fixing some problems in their area.

Jeff, Doug, and Julie share stories from their time in Jamaica in December, 2012
Telling about the flooring work and painting of the church
Carol brought this beautiful spring plant bowl, that was given to her, to church to share its prettiness with all of us
The Kartik family lead us in a happy praise time between services. So nice to have the children up front!

Royce Odiyar came to have our sermon this week. His talk was entitled "The Ultimate Barrier," and his main text from the Bible was Psalm 11:2.
Leading us in prayer
Energetic preacher
Royce is an excellent speaker.
Royce talked about the many ways we can have pride build up barriers in our lives. Here are a few of the Bible verses he had us look up and read:
Psalm 10:4, Obadiah 3, Hosea 7:10, Amos 6:8, Proverbs 21:4, Proverbs 13:10, Proverbs 10:2 and Proverbs 11:2
One key line in his sermon was, "Pride gets you down and keeps you down. It is the ultimate barrier between God and man, and between people." Royce shared the stories in Luke 15 about the lost sheep, lost coin, and mostly the lost son. The father had no pride to receive his son back to the household in full. Royce also shared thoughts from chapter 71 of The Desire of Ages about Jesus great humility, and left us with the question, "Who did wash Jesus' feet?" The final Bible verse was Matthew 11: 28, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Thank you, Royce, for coming to share at Orchard City this past weekend!

So nice to have 'our' family back up for the praise hymn to end the service. Thank you!

Family Communion at Orchard City

January 19th, 2013, was another full Sabbath morning at OCC.

Edith led her first Sabbath School and her program about "Listening" was excellent.
We need to follow some guidelines to make sure everyone is comfortable and feels like what they say actually gets heard.

She handed out some quizzes and some of the questions were tricky.
Then she reminded us about people in our church family that might not hear as well as others and how we can be respectful of their needs.

Edith leading Sabbath School

Tyler was one of the Sabbath School teachers this week and lead the group in a good discussion of The Creation Completed.
Prayer together ends this class discussion

Up in the sanctuary we all enjoy Praise Time with Bryn as she shared some of the song writers stories with us before we sang their song.
Made in Kid's Korner
The children always enjoy their special song and this week it was "I'm In-Right, Out-Right, Up-Right, Down-Right, Happy All the Time."

Blog post from Pastor and Mrs. Tetz's grandson - January 21st, 2013

This is a blog entry of Christopher Shaw, grandson of Pastor and Myrna Tetz

Thoughts on MLK Jr. Day… Wait, I thought this blog was about Dystonia?
It’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day and I figured I should, like countless other bloggers, post something about it. The post will be short and it will have absolutely nothing about racism. Instead this day draws my thoughts elsewhere, it draws my thoughts to love. Namely love that has been shown to me. The selfless love people have shown me in the past months has been amazing to say the least. On this day I just have to pause and say thank you to all the amazing people who have reached out to me. Just knowing that people care about me and how I’m doing is amazing. I am truly blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.
I think we underestimate the power of just showing an interest in someone else’s life. Many people may not have physical disorders or diseases but we all have emotional hurts. On this day, I challenge myself and everyone else to make an effort to genuinely show an interest in others lives. If we would decide every day to show others that we genuinely care, this world would be a much better place. By showing we care, we come closer to Reverend King's dream. We may not be breaking down social barriers, but we are breaking down emotional barriers. And there is a very simple solution to how to break down those barriers. Love. It’s as simple as that. So how about we actually start expressing that we love one another. The first step in that expression is to show others that you genuinely care about them. I know I have been changed by the amount of love people have shown me. I can’t live my life like I did before. Self-absorbed, selfish, with the occasional act of caring. No I have to start genuinely caring about others. I am going to make this first step. Will you join me?
Please keep Christopher Shaw in your prayers as the doctors keep testing for what is making him have spasms and pain.

Prayers for Erika M.

On Thursday, January 24th, Erika M. had surgery again.  She is to stay off her one foot for the next 6 weeks.  This will be a very difficult time for Erika.  She had surgery on her other leg to harvest bone from it so is doubly sore.

Please keep her in your prayers as the Dr. works on her.

We have missed having Erika worship with us these last couple of months.

I am sure she would love to have a call or a visit in the hospital this weekend.

Thank you.

Loretta took these flowers to Erika from Orchard City Church.
Erika really likes them.
She appreciated Naomi's visit so much and also was surprised to have Esther and Walter Wecker come up to see her  .

If any one is near the hospital and can pop in she would be so happy to have you come in to say hi.

Thank you, Lord!

Esther Wecker had surgery on January 21st, 2013 at Kelowna General Hospital.

Thank you for your prayers, emails, and fb messages.

The warmth of a hand to hold is healing

Mum called me this morning, January 22nd, to tell me the Dr. had just been in and she is able to come home today when her blood work is all in and shown to be fine.

We are thrilled this is done and that she may be pain free from now on.

Sabbath - January 12th, 2013

The children were happily making these very cute little camels when I came downstairs.
I had to quickly go back upstairs to get my camera so you all could see what they were enjoying.
Thank you, Naomi for working so wonderfully with the children at Orchard City SDA church.

Naomi and others help the younger ones make their camels
Watching

In the sanctuary Keith and Heidi led the praise time with songs from camp days at Mivoden.
We all enjoyed it.
Keith and Heidi led us in Praise Time
Camp songs are fun to sing
Even the Pastor and his wife can do the "Let Us Come Together, Praise the Name of Jesus" actions
Joy is like a fountain!!
Love Like an Ocean
We all enjoy the children's song
Levi knows the actions, too

Soon after the Praise Time was story time.
Mrs. Tetz puts so much into her stories. This time she got Alexander to help her with a few science experiments.
The crumpled up paper in the bottom of the cup did not get wet when pushed into the bowl of water
One piece of paper, cut right, can go around a person
Mryna telling the Children's Story
Will books be supported by that little piece of paper?
If it is the right shape it certainly will!
What made the balloon fill with air?
David read us the words he made to this tune he played
His harmonica sounded sweet.
Thank you for sharing, Dave.
The Pastor did share his message with us and then our Sabbath morning ended with warm handshakes and hugs.
