A Seventh-day Adventist musical legend, Del Delker, died today, Jan. 31, 2018, in Porterville, California.
She was a faithful soloist for the Voice of Prophecy radio broadcast for many years. She worked closely with the Voice of Prophecy quartet, The King’s Heralds, and the various speakers of the Voice of Prophecy down through the years. Her beautiful contralto voice was so warm and welcoming during worship services, evangelistic meetings, on recordings, and wherever she shared her God-given musical talent.
I can remember as a child growing up in Cairo, Egypt, where my mother would have a record of Del Delker playing and my mother would harmonize with Del’s singing.
Del Delker also produced a record album of religious music with the Wedgwood Trio during the 1960s, and my brother-in-law, Don Vollmer, a member of the Wedgwood Trio, spoke so glowingly of Del Delker. They traveled together for campmeetings during a summer.
When we get to heaven, we will meet many people who were not only blessed by Del’s voice but were influenced by her Christ-centered singing to make a decision to follow Jesus.
May our Seventh-day Adventist musicians today and each of us focus on the lovely characteristics of Del Delker’s gentle and heart-felt singing approach that led so many people to the throne room of heaven.
Our condolences and sympathy go to her family, to the Voice of Prophecy, and to all those who knew her.
Because of Christ’s grace and righteousness, we will see Del Delker again when the fulfillment of 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 takes place and “the dead in Christ will rise first” and those who are living who have placed themselves in God’s hands will then rise to meet the Lord in the air.
I want to be there that day, through Christ’s grace, to see Jesus and hear Del Delker join her voice with the choirs of heaven.

A wonderful lady, I met and interacted with her on several occasions mainly when I lived in Glendale, Ca. May she rest in peace until our Saviour returns!! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteDel Delker was a role model of mine as a teenage girl. My great uncle, Henry de Fluiter worked with her for many years at the Voice of Prophecy and always remarked at what a pleasant lady she was. I loved listening to her contralto voice, very peaceful and calming. Kathleen A. McEwan
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting us know about Del. She was a gracious and sweet lady. My memories of Del go back to La Sierra College where we also had Jerry Dill and Tommy Hooper (Wayne’s little brother) to offer us rides home after school. Then in later life we had several phone calls and letters about a certain piece of music she helped me acquire. So caring and friendly. We corresponded for several years until I was feeling like she was too ill or maybe just tired...like I feel now. So we agreed to meet in heaven.
