Church at OCC - January 19th

This weekend it was Vicki's turn to lead out in Sabbath School and she did a terrific job.

Her theme was Stained Glass.  The stories she used to share this theme were something to remember and learn from.

Sharing her story of making this stained glass from broken shattered auto glass.

Angela took the upstairs SS class lesson this Sabbath.  I heard she did a good job of getting through the whole week.

Roland was the facilitator in the downstairs class and brought these pottery pieces - one from each of the 7 churches we are discussing this quarter in the lesson.  So interesting.  Thanks, Roland.  And your tie was great for this lesson too.

Happy Helper... getting rid of the ice.

This drummer always adds something interesting to the Praise Time.  Thank you so much, Joel.

Someone is happy to be singing.

One day she will have special music and lead the Praise Time!!

Jerrie Lou shares the children's story.

Dianne W came to share her ministry of music with us even on her birthday.  Thank you, so much.

Lori S shared the sermon on Forgiveness and what it means to really forgive.

January 12th continued...

More for this interesting day...

Ms Swain leading the Praise Service with her lovely singing.
Two friends sing together in Praise Time.  Nice to sing from the Red Chorus book again.

Children's Song

Collecting the offering for the children.

Beverly shares the children's story for the morning.

The Irrgang's bring us special music ... El Shaddai.  Thank you so much.

A reminder that this week the small groups will be meeting and reading together this little book on the Holy Spirit.

Pastor Molina always has an uplifting and interesting sermon to share.
Beautiful flowers for the tables for fellowship meal.

Doing her part to make the meal tasty.

Jerrie Lou suggested that everyone with the caps Olga made bring them and wear them at fellowship meal and then have a photo together.   What a great idea.

Olga - the cheerful maker of these warm caps.

Sermon titled: Left behind
Bible reading: Philippians 3:13-15
Opening song: 332
Closing song: 330
Why Walking through a Doorway Makes You Forget?

1.A problem that turns into a blessing
We all know why such forgetting happens: we didn’t pay enough attention, or too much time passed, or it just wasn’t important enough.  But a “completely different” idea comes from a team of researchers at the University of Notre Dame. The first part of their paper’s title sums it up:  “Walking through doorways causes forgetting.”
So there's the thing we know best:  The common and annoying experience of arriving somewhere only to realize you've forgotten what you went there to do.

Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV
“Remember not the former things,
nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
   and rivers in the desert.

2. Getting rid of clutter
The memory works in priorities, and a study says that every time that we walk through a door our memory deletes unnecessary files so to say.
Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart with new and right desires, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony heart of sin and give you a new, obedient heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so you will obey my laws and do whatever I command. (Ezekiel 36:25-27, NLT)
3. Starting new
The Doorway Effect occurs because we change both the physical and mental environments, moving to a different room and thinking about different things.
Every time that we walk through a new door there's opportunities for new memories! and Jesus said, “I am the door”, so he is the opportunity to start all over as a new life.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Ephesians 4:22-24 ESV
to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness
I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
John 10:9‭-‬10 NASB

Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the Lord has spoken: “Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against me. The ox knows its owner, and the donkey its master's crib, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.” Ah, sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the Lord, they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged. Why will you still be struck down? Why will you continue to rebel? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint. ...

January 12th

Bonnie led out in the Sabbath School this week and involved almost all of the Superintendent team.

She hosted interesting people ( from years ago but still have interesting stories to share) and asked them about different stories from their lives.

The first one was John Zebedee from the Bible and played by Doug.

Doug L was the camera man for this talk show.

The hostess called upon Vicki ( who had the part of Ellen White) to share insights into her messages.

Lisa represented present day author of many stories in the Mission Quarterly - Andrew McChesney.

Dave took the part of James White... an interesting fact was that James was a sickly boy and did not attend school until he was 19 years of age.  He went to school for 12 weeks and qualified for a teaching certificate.  Later he attended for 19 weeks for a total of seven months.  ( from Dorothy Watts book Sabbath School Program Planner)
At the end of the program.  Thanks, Bonnie.

This character was to represent Dr Isaac Watts - hymn writer for 761 hymns.  31 were in the old hymnal and 25 are in the current hymnal - a few being, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" "Marching to Zion" and "Joy to the World".

Our Christmas Program - At OCC

We enjoyed a wonderful program planned and organized by Lori.  If you were watching carefully you might have remembered something similar a few years ago, but this time there were several different participants and features.

It was so nice to have guests come and join us and our members fill the pews too.

After the program we went to have a fellowship snack time downstairs.  The food was delicious and plentiful.

We can look at some pictures of the morning and enjoy it all over again.

Coming in to the "lobby" in the middle of a storm.

Passing out the hot drinks to warm the travellers up.

Hugs along the way.

Singing and playing guitar helps to pass the time waiting for the storm to pass.

Doyle plays his part of the trombone duet.

Sharing the story about the birds.

Jacob was willing to share a beautiful piano solo with us during the snow storm.

It was fun to go up and join her mummy in the play.
Playing and singing Christmas carols together.

All the children were invited up to sing a group song.

Tammy shared this beautiful piece with us in sign language.  "Oh, Holy Night"

Always nice to have Jodi back and listen to her play the piano.

Bryn is back and playing the violin again... so enjoy it.

Playing her homemade flute.

Grampa and Jacob waiting in the warm "lobby".

Happy to join the other children to sing.
The Pastor called in to the radio station and finds out that the roads are open and everyone can travel again.

Ladies who looked after the lovely food on the tables for us to enjoy.

Cheery little Christmas boy.
