This Past Weekend - November 18th

When a person enters OC Church at 9:20 or so singing can be heard coming from the sanctuary.
This sounds inviting and beautiful.  A big thanks goes to our choristers and musicians as they sing and play organ and piano to lead the congregation in praise time.

This Sabbath Liza had our SS about the Monarch Butterfly.
The Monarch Caterpillar eating Milkweed

She shared with us about True North and how we should follow the Bible as our True North to guide us Home.

Prayer groups at the beginning of SS class so we can pray for the requests that have been spoken.

Doug led the class discussion this time.

Kelly made an appeal for Canadian Tire dollars for the Pathfinder Club.  They are collecting money and having different events to earn money so they can go to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the Pathfinder Camporee.

Someone likes to sing out of the chorus book.

Dave shares a story about a beautiful cow and her new born calf.

Getting the rest of us to participate and then to let the children answer... :)

Special Music group brings us a lovely song to bring us to the sermon time.

Emily was the speaker  and she spoke from her heart about her mission field being right here where she is.

To close the service we joined her playing by singing "I'll Go Where You Want Me to Go Dear Lord"
for some that might be right where they are.
Thank you, Emily.

This side of the pond has ice starting to form... where are the turtles now? Not on their log.

The classrooms downstairs have been carpeted and are now being painted.  Things are looking clean and bright.

An emptied out VBS storage room.

Prayer Request

A couple of blog posts ago a blog was shared from a family in Tchad.

The woman Dr.  Danae Netteburg is in the USA.  The father Dr Olen Netteburg is in Tchad with his four children.

He noticed their family pet cat was acting strangely and put it in a area for him to be able to watch for possible rabies.

Here is the fb post from Danae the other day.

Please pray for Lyol and Addison. They were scratched really badly by our cat on Thursday, probably bitten. Olen is observing the cat for rabies because she is acting crazy.
I have gotten really nervous about this today as Olen and I were talking today. We have decided to give them the rabies vaccine and hopefully he can find the immunoglobulin. And hopefully he can find the vaccine too tomorrow.
Google says you have up to 6 days to give these meds to try to prevent rabies. Early is obviously better. Don't google rabies. It's bad.
Update Sunday evening:
Spent ALL day trying to arrange this. As did Olen. Was at my review course and didn't hear one lecture today (because frankly that doesn't matter compared to this).
Had a friend Joshua Knowles who was on hold up to very recently to fly 5 vials of meds from Kenya in the morning to ndj. He just didn't have a visa so we weren't sure it would work. Actually he may still think he's flying since he's sleeping.
Olen Netteburgs been on the phone/email with our medivac Insurance all day as well. Hopefully he's sleeping now so he can drive on the morning. The earliest they could get them injected would be Tuesday (a little disappointing honestly).
And then finally Olen found friends in Koza who said they have it. And then found it closer in Marua. A friend is planned to bring the needed meds to them in the morning. Olen will leave very early in the morning with Lyol and Addison to meet our friend, Ndilbe Middai part way.
Praying it all works and the earlier the better. Pray for Ndilbe on his early trip that the police and road conditions are okay for his 6 hour trip.
And Many thanks for the prayers and people who have offered their contacts. Contacts are everything in Africa. Thanks to Carin Morse Van Gelder who put us in contact early with an amazing rabies ID specialist!! We appreciate it all!!
Now I'm off to drive home to DC. But I feel better knowing we have a plan. Plans are not foolproof, but at least it's something. I miss my kids. : (
Update Sunday morning:
So Olen thinks he has found 5 doses of the vaccine but the guy doesn't open till tomorrow. And no immunoglobulin in the country. So...working on suppliers. Maybe get some from Cameroon by Tuesday.

This was today's post.
The cat died.
Please remember this family in your prayers.  Thank you.

Today:

Danae Netteburg Immunoglobulin given!! Both kids

OCC-

Come on out for Sabbath School.  It is an important part of worship.  The first 20 minutes are about Missions here at home and in other countries.  It helps us to be connected to our family everywhere.
It helps us to think of others and their needs instead of our own worries and triumphs.
It helps us to listen, think and share.

When you have the time read this interesting blog about SS.

http://ssnet.org/blog/church-needs-sabbath-school/

Here, Lori is sharing in OCC Sabbath School as a superintendent.

The next part of Sabbath School is a small groups time.  We have two classes that meet and it is a time for going over the lesson study for the past week and sharing our thoughts and what we discovered during the week of home study.  We also have classes for the children to attend.

Alex leads the lesson study each 2nd Sabbath of the month.  He uses his artistic abilities to get the different points across to us and help them stick in our minds.

Pastor Wesley preaches from the Bible for this Sabbath.  He is the BC conference president.

It is Remembrance Day and our Pathfinder Club was at the park in Rutland to share their care and present a wreath.

This Family in Tchad....

I enjoy reading about this mission family in Tchad.

There are some roundabout ways we know some of the people that know some of these people... it makes it interesting for sure.

The young man who was our driver in Ukraine last May is a Doctor - surgeon- who has been working at this mission hospital for the last few months. It is great to see his photos too.

Thought you might like to see and read this blog post today from the main Doctor who is writing about his wife. Yes, she is a Doctor too.

Bland - Olen & Danae

See if this does not touch a cord in your heart, too.

Start of a New Month ~ November

A snowy Sabbath!!

Such a contrast with last weekends foggy and sunshine.

It was warm inside and filled with good things.

James read the scripture text for us and did a great job.  We enjoy young people helping in the service.  Thank you, James.

Walter having the opening prayer for the service.  Thank you.

Andrew sharing his personal testimony during the sermon.  So good to hear.  Thank you.

Jud has a passion for AWA and it exciting to hear his sermons and all the new developments that have taken place since he shared with us in Sabbath School in October.   Thank you for sharing, Jud.

Come out tomorrow...

This week Jud Wickwire and a friend will have our church service at 11 o'clock.

Another Sabbath at OCC

Fog and sunshine over our little pond.

When we arrived at church this day it was pretty to see the fog hanging over the pond.  The colours seem to stand out more in the fog with the sun wanting to come through.

We enjoyed an interview with "Flora Plummer" - who was in the General Conference Sabbath School Department for 23 years.

Loretta helped Jerrie Lou dress up for the "interview".  Thank you both of you.
Brooklyn had the Mission Story.  Thank you so much.

Telling the little ones about this special animal God made ( well ,  He made the real variety)  Teacher Loretta has such a nice program for the children.

Watchful little one.

I think she must have turned her attention from teacher to grama...
Ernie sang a very touching song for the special music.  We appreciated him coming to visit and share the music and we also appreciated the pianist that accompanied him.

Paul sharing a story about bees and how such little creatures have so many interesting facts about them.

Keith reading the Bible text before the sermon.

Pastor Jim - he had a wonderful sermon that ended with a special story about his father and then a song to close.  We will miss your sermons while you take a little break for a couple of months.

She was inspired during the closing hymn... interpreting the hymn, "Tread Softly".

Very artistic.
So nice to have them in our church family.

Ernie

The older children's class with Teacher Liza.

And the even older ones lesson discussion class with Dave leading.

Sisters enjoying the craft part of SS.
