Sabbath of January 27th 2018

When we walked into the church this morning the white tablecloth reminded us it was time for the Lord's Supper during church service.

Sabbath School came first and we were reminded to Keep Our Eyes on Jesus with the opening hymn of #290 Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.  Dave had our opening prayer and then came the welcome/theme...

Our new teacher at the academy for grades 3 and 4, Karenda Swain, wrote the answers to the question, " What games do you play using a ball".
Welcome to OCC, Karenda.  It is great to have you here.

Thanks, Karenda.
The idea in all of these sports is to keep your eye on the ball.  It is like that in our lives too.  We need to keep our eyes on Jesus all day, every day.
The story was shared about Peter asking to walk to meet Jesus on the water.  He was fine and walking well until he thought about himself or others and forgot to keep his eyes focused on Jesus.

Dave L had the lesson discussion and and Lori lead it downstairs for the other classroom.  Children were in the older Kid's Corner and in the younger Kid's Corner too.

The " Come to the Farm" Theme

Gerry had the children's story and used coloured spots on his had to explain about stains.  We can remove some of the stains from our hands but not all and not the ones on our hearts... that is a job for Jesus and He does wash us clean.

That little black nose came from making sheep masks at SS.

So lovely to see Diane and Eldon share the piano seat.  We sure do enjoy the lovely music Diane creates for us many Sabbaths.  So thankful for the fine example of Diane and Eldon in their dedication to being at church each week and being on time.

So nice to hear the trombone music each week.

Team work for Praise Time

Using the hymnal has many benefits.  Love this duo.

Yes, Beverly does have an announcement to make about OCS!!

We sang a hymn and closed the service.

January 31 2018

A Seventh-day Adventist musical legend, Del Delker, died today, Jan. 31, 2018, in Porterville, California.
She was a faithful soloist for the Voice of Prophecy radio broadcast for many years. She worked closely with the Voice of Prophecy quartet, The King’s Heralds, and the various speakers of the Voice of Prophecy down through the years. Her beautiful contralto voice was so warm and welcoming during worship services, evangelistic meetings, on recordings, and wherever she shared her God-given musical talent.
I can remember as a child growing up in Cairo, Egypt, where my mother would have a record of Del Delker playing and my mother would harmonize with Del’s singing.
Del Delker also produced a record album of religious music with the Wedgwood Trio during the 1960s, and my brother-in-law, Don Vollmer, a member of the Wedgwood Trio, spoke so glowingly of Del Delker. They traveled together for campmeetings during a summer.
When we get to heaven, we will meet many people who were not only blessed by Del’s voice but were influenced by her Christ-centered singing to make a decision to follow Jesus.
May our Seventh-day Adventist musicians today and each of us focus on the lovely characteristics of Del Delker’s gentle and heart-felt singing approach that led so many people to the throne room of heaven.
Our condolences and sympathy go to her family, to the Voice of Prophecy, and to all those who knew her.
Because of Christ’s grace and righteousness, we will see Del Delker again when the fulfillment of 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 takes place and “the dead in Christ will rise first” and those who are living who have placed themselves in God’s hands will then rise to meet the Lord in the air.
I want to be there that day, through Christ’s grace, to see Jesus and hear Del Delker join her voice with the choirs of heaven.

January ~ 2018 ~ A New Year.

It was a lovely Sabbath morning at OCC.

Lori had the SS and Bonnie and Doug took some of the time to share about Let's Move Kelowna happenings.
Spotlight on Missions is always interesting to see and helpful to learn about the projects our SS offerings on 13th Sabbath will go too.

She also lead a lively SS lesson discussion.

Last Sabbath she shared prayer journals with those who attended and explained about it again this weekend for those who were not here last weekend. Hopefully everyone has one now.

Kid's Corner has a new theme this quarter.  Have a peek in there sometime and see what the children are learning.
The new Call to Worship Chorus

Meetings at the Delta

The Elders for the coming year and giving Beverly a thank you for the years of work she did as Head Elder.

And don't forget this Elder... he is important to OCC.
We enjoyed singing from the Red Chorus book in Praise Time.

Wonderful, Wonderful, Yes My Lord is Wonderful... the Children's song this weekend.

Attentive children for the story time.

Bob told a story about when he was a little boy on his trike in the department store downtown.

Sure do enjoy hearing Dave sing and play for special music.

Children's Offering time... remember to bring your change for this offering.

Scripture Reading and Prayer time

It takes a team...
